A Jewish home in the heart of Berlin
The historic site of the former "Kottbusser Ufer Synagogue" in Berlin-Kreuzberg is about to become once again a center for Jewish community, education and culture – a place for encounters, a home for Jewish initiatives, a space for Jewish art and culture.

History
The synagogue and the community center are linked to over 100 years of eventful Jewish history in Kreuzberg: from the first consecration in 1916, to the destruction during the Shoah and the Second World War, to the reoccupation and the planned reconstruction.
The Fraenkelufer Synagogue, designed by Alexander Beer, was inaugurated in 1916 and was one of the largest synagogues in Berlin with space for over 1,700 people in the main hall and a total of over 2,000 seats. Even then, it was planned as a kind of community center.
Program & Offers of the Jewish Center
It will be some time before the Jewish Center in Kreuzberg is completed. But even though it still has its own building, the programmes and content have already been in development for several years - geared towards the needs of Jewish initiatives and organizations.
