A Jewish cultural and meeting place in the heart of Berlin-Kreuzberg
A new place for Jewish life in Berlin is to be built on the historic site of the former "Synagogue on Kottbusser Ufer", between today's Fraenkelufer and Kohlfurter Straße.
Following the destruction of the synagogue during the Reichspogromnacht and the subsequent demolition of the main building, our aim is to create a lively Jewish space again in this historic location. With the upswing in young Jewish life in Germany, especially in Berlin, there is a growing need for a safe and open place that serves the Jewish community and culture, offers opportunities for exchange and strengthens the Jewish presence in city life.
The number of events and initiatives dealing with contemporary Jewish identity, culture and art has steadily increased in recent years. The aim is increasingly to make Jewish life visible beyond the necessary remembrance of the Holocaust and the fight against anti-Semitism.
Our aim is to create a place that deals with current developments and perspectives of Jewish communities in Berlin, Germany and worldwide - a space that promotes Jewish culture and integrates it into urban society.
